Residents meeting February 2008

Onyx, Bromley Council and the Environment Agency invited several local residents to the first of the quarterly residents meetings for 2008. It was a chance for all parties to discuss issues with the site and get an update on the actions on Veolia and Bromley Council had from the previous meeting.

The minutes detailed below

Waldo Road Transfer station

Attendees:

Residents Representitives from Mornington Avenue, Carlyle Avenue and The Avenue
Other representitives: John Woodruff LBB
Nic Allan – Veolia
Tom Hall -Veolia
Steve Morris - Veolia

The following issues were discussed;

Residents advised that 11 extra spaces for cars on the site now – thereby hoping to reduce queues

Extra satellite sites for green waste. Leaflets will be handed out at Waldo Road from April. Scheme is proving very popular so will be extended this year to the end of November.

Carlyle Avenue boundary wall. This should be allowed for out of current budget so hopefully will be happening very soon. There will be natural foliage so should be aesthetically pleasing as well as minimising noise, smell and dust.

One hour earlier closure on Saturday. This would be a long process with many consultations and amendments needed to the licence. Residents couldn’t reach agreement between themselves so still to be decided.

Green waste streams now under cover. Deodorisers working. Floor has been re-surfaced in shed allowing for greater storage.

Waste turnover quicker, Veolia reported, so less chance for smell.

35% recycling so “ smelly” waste reduced.

Satellite green water is left over weekend so Veolia will aim to remove as quickly as possible on Mondays.

Birds and other vermin. A new contract with MBC starting in April – have to wait and see whether they prove more efficient in reducing numbers.

Keep Clear signs in Homesdale Road. Now being governed by the new Tesco’s parkings discussions.

Monitoring air control. NA has been in touch with the relevant dept and will chase up.

Bio-diesel plant not going ahead

Fly tipping doesn’t seem to be so bad. Back alley is checked on a regular basis by Veolia.

Camera, so people can check length of queues has been a success. Tesco is going to put a camera in Homesdale Road.

24 hour contact number 07768817451 is never answered but Veolia insist it is on 24/7.
